Abstract

Looking at the global notebook PC market in the third quarter of 2010, the impact of the euro depreciation on the market continued into July. At the same time, with the shipment volume reaching its peak in June, the inventory levels remained relatively high in the third quarter of 2010, in particular, for some notebook PC brands. In North America, consumer demand for notebook PCs affected by the ongoing high unemployment rate and, therefore, despite of the anticipated back-to-school demand, brand-name vendors were conservative towards inventory replenishment in the third quarter. In the Western European market, owing to the anticipated strong demand in the second half of 2010, traditionally the peak seasons, and thanks to improved sales in the distribution channels, signifying a slight rebound of market demand in the region, shipments of new notebook PC models managed to remain stable in the third quarter of 2010 as a result.
